Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Sufmi dasco Ahmad, S.H., M.H. (born October 7, 1967) is an Indonesian politician, academic, and businessman, currently serving as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the 2024–2029 period. He is a senior figure within the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and has played a key role in the party since its formation.
Early Life and Education
Dasco was born in Bandung, West Java, and spent his childhood in various cities across Indonesia—attending elementary school in Palembang, junior high in Jakarta, and high school in Manado. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Pancasila University in 1993, and later pursued legal studies, obtaining a law degree from Jakarta University, followed by a master’s and doctorate in law from Islamic universities in Jakarta and Bandung respectively.
Political Career
Dasco entered politics through his close association with Fadli Zon and became actively involved in the founding of Gerindra in 2008. He has served in multiple leadership positions within the party, including as Deputy Chairman and currently as Daily Executive Chairman.
He was elected to the DPR in 2014 from Banten III and has been re-elected in subsequent elections, receiving 119,692 votes in 2024. Throughout his tenure, he has held several key assignments, including membership in Commission III (law and security) and leadership of the House’s Ethics Council. He was appointed Deputy Speaker in 2019 and again in 2024, overseeing legislative areas related to national security and politics.
Academic and Professional Background
Beyond politics, Dasco is also active in academia and the private sector. He has served as Rector of Universitas Kebangsaan Republik Indonesia since 2020 and holds a professorship in law at Pakuan University. His academic credentials have drawn public attention, with media reports questioning aspects of the publication and appointment process.
In business, he has held executive roles in various companies and legal firms, and remains engaged in legal and electoral advocacy through institutions like the Pusat Kajian Sengketa Pemilu.
Personal Life
He is married to Raden Euis Handayani and is the father of one daughter. Dasco is known for his long-standing involvement in civic and professional organizations, including the Indonesian Student Association (PII), Kongres Advokat Indonesia, and various national community groups.
